A Very Corgi Christmas, written by Sam Hay and illustrated by Loretta Schauer, is an adorable fictional story of one of the Queen’s corgis. Kids in grades Preschool through 2nd would love this story. The main character is Belle, the littlest corgi of her family. She is so cute with her gigantic eyes, long lashes, and blue collar with a crown-shaped tag.

The other corgis say the Christmas preparations are too much bother. Belle loves them “a little too much.” The illustration does a great job of showing that. It has Belle wrapping herself in garland, wearing a strand of lights and a Santa hat, and balancing an ornament on her nose. At her feet are more ornaments, a paper crown, a snow globe, mistletoe, wrapping paper, and Christmas crackers.

She sees so many people and dogs out the window, and they seem to enjoy Christmas, so Belle sneaks out of the palace. While kids should never follow Belle’s example and leave the house without permission, it is natural for some dogs to sneak out the door.

Belle gets overwhelmed by the bright lights of London, the loud noises of traffic, and the hustling of people. She meets a scruffy street corgi called Pip, who shows her how much fun London is at Christmastime. They ride the trolley and London’s famous Ferris wheel, the London Eye. They watch a show at a theatre, complete with popcorn, and see some different clocks, including Big Ben. The narration and pictures are a fun way to introduce young children to London.

Pip thinks Belle should return to her family, and Belle agrees, even though she wants to stay with him. They take some British flags out of a trash bin and wave them in front of an incoming limo. Somebody in the limo recognizes Belle and takes her in. They want Pip to come along, but Pip has left. Belle’s family is happy that she returned, and even decorates her bed with garland. Belle misses Pip and wishes on a star. On Christmas morning, Belle receives a giant box. The box is opened, and—surprise!—it’s Pip. Of course, in real life wishes don’t always come true, but this is a children’s Christmas story, and these stories are filled with miracles.

Many people love corgis these days. I own one, and she is so cute! If you’re looking for a corgi story, as well as a Christmas adventure in London, look no further than A Very Corgi Christmas.

A Very Corgi Christmas

Wrap up warm and join little corgis Belle and Pip on a Christmas adventure in London!

Belle LOVES the bustle of Christmas preparations at Buckingham Palace, but her family says she’s in the way, and that Christmas is NOT for corgis! So Belle decides to slip out and explore London, where she’s sure there will be Christmas spirit in abundance! But on the busy streets, Belle finds everything a bit too bright, a bit too noisy, and FAR TOO LOUD!

Luckily, a streetwise puppy called Pip turns up and whisks Belle off on a wonderfully romantic whirl around the sights of London. All too soon it’s time to head home, but when the couple finally work out how to get back into the palace . . . Pip disappears.

Will Belle ever see him again? Perhaps . . . with the help of a special royal couple, who might just bring Belle a wonderful Christmas surprise.

For dog lovers everywhere, this Lady and the Tramp-esque romp around London at Christmas is full of heart . . . and waggy tails!
