Adrift in the Chronostream: The Chronostream Trilogy Book 1 by B.R.R. Cannon is a fast-paced read perfect for fans of time travel stories! It’s a clean adult novella with exciting twists, cool tech, and characters you want to root for.
The thing I enjoyed the most about this story is the worldbuilding. It’s a “fictional retro futuristic world” that seems so much like our own, yet unique. For example, the time travelers visit a great library of the past called “Alexandrine.” Not all the places and time periods are that “on the nose”, but it’s great fun. There’s discussion among the characters about time travel theories because even they are not sure just how damaging time interference can be.
The story follows Ainsley, Arthur, Lucas, and Petra- Time Guild Members living and working on a hidden space station. Ainsley is a newly graduated Pilot with her very own time ship. Her best friend Petra serves as her on-base Navigator. We do spend some time with Lucas and Arthur though I think they will factor in more in subsequent books. Ainsley’s first ever mission results in her being trapped in the past and attacked by a mysterious villain. Mayhem abounds throughout multiple time periods and locations. Family secrets are revealed. Mistakes are made. This first book is brought to a conclusion, but the twist at the end leaves me wanting more in the best way! I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy when it’s available!
“Her grandfather’s original vision for time travel was gathering lost artifacts and preserving them. Interact as little as possible. Interfere as little as possible. Keep the chronostream safe.”
