Hello, Friday Fiction Friends! I absolutely love to read. And though our blog is about books from off the beaten track, I read all genres. I mean, children’s, middle-grade, YA, and everything from romance to historical to fantasy to science fiction to non-fiction, and so much more.

But I think to be a good writer, you need to be a well-rounded reader. And today, I’m sharing 10 books I’ve read lately that I think you’ll enjoy. (Having Covid and pneumonia several weeks back gave me a good bit of extra reading time)

Drum roll, please:

  1.  The Wheel Spins by Ethel Lina White. This suspenseful mystery was first published in 1936. Alfred Hitchcock adapted it for the screen as The Lady Vanishes. Wow. The suspense in the book was palpable, and I could hardly read fast enough to see what happened. An awesome read.
  2. The Maid by Nita Prose. I loved this book because of the first-person POV of a person dealing with Autism. Such a unique perspective. A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different.
  3. A Lady Divided by Sandra Ardoin. A post-Civil War Texas romance, Ardoin spins a great tale of the western adventure mixed with romance. I highly recommend this book…
  4. The Wretched of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler. I simply adore a good fantasy book, and this one was great. In a world where reading is a privilege, thirteen-year-old orphan Lia works in Muirwood Abbey’s kitchen until a mysterious knight brings a wounded squire, launching her into an unexpected adventure. Five stars!
  5. Trail of Danger by Hope Welborn. This romantic suspense lives up to its name. So much danger, suspense, and romance wrapped up in a good read.
  6. Restoration Year: Devotions to Transform Your Relationships, Spirit, and Faith by John Eldredge. I’m actually reading this year-long devotional through for the second time. It’s that good. So encouraging and inspiring!
  7. Biggest Fake in the Universe by Johan Rundberg. I truly love all the books by this Swedish author. This middle-grade wonder finds our hero, Mo, learning the meaning of being true to yourself…the hard way.
  8. Delve, Pivot, Propel by Steven James. I’m always reading books about writing, and though I’m not finished with this latest by Steven James, I’m inspired already.  This book provides the tools you need to elevate your writing, engage your readers, and unleash your creative potential.
  9. Rage Against the Machine by H. Meadow Hopewell. Here’s another book I’ve not finished reading, but it is definitely keeping me engaged. This science fiction book is a riveting and frightening peek into the evil possibilities of biotechnology. A winner!
  10. Cat of Many Tails by Ellery Queen. My last but definitely not least in an Ellery Queen mystery. I especially love these books because they combine mystery with literary fiction. They’re so well-written! Another winner for me and unbelievably suspenseful with a serial killer on the loose.

So, these are my top ten reads for the spring. I hope you’ll try some of them out and then let me know what you think. I’d love to know…
