Sometimes, I think the hardest part of life is making decisions. They can be as simple as deciding where to stop and buy a cup of coffee, or as difficult as:

  • Should I sell my home?
  • Go to college?
  • Which book should I work on? Market more? Pitch to publishers?
  • How do I navigate family relationships?

The list goes on and on. My mind gets so tired of deciding what to do that when simple decisions emerge, my mind blanks. Happens all the time at the end of a day if we decide to go out and eat at a restaurant. My husband will turn to me in the car and say, “Where do you want to eat?”

I am the proverbial deer in the headlights. My mind blanks out, and I go, “Uh, let me think.” And I start reviewing what places we are close to. Did I like the place last time? How long did it take to be served? And we drive down the road in silence.

Do you ever struggle with decisions?

Now more than anything, I want to flow in the Spirit. Be led by God and able to relax in His loving embrace during these decision-making times. And sometimes I do. I’ll pick the restaurant, make the phone call, go to my computer, and start writing.

But sometimes I just can’t.

And I’m learning that’s okay.

I’m incorporating more de-stressors in my life, such as stretching, journaling, walking, and writing at the coffee shop. I’m visiting friends and family more often. And life is a little better.

I also love listening to joy-filled music. I’ll share my new favorite song down below. I’d love to know what you think. How do you de-stress?
