By June Foster

My husband and I travel full-time in our RV but given the recent state of our world, decided to leave Harlingen, Texas, our winter destination, and return to Cullman, Alabama, the place we call home. The Lord saw us safely here during the three-day trip. But when we arrived at our campground in Cullman, Joe decided to fix the steps on our RV which had stopped working the minute we left Harlingen.

This is how it went down. He walked out of the RV to the car to head to the RV parts store. Unfortunately, he couldn’t go anywhere because the car had a flat. My resourceful husband filled the tire with enough air to get him to Walmart and to the tire repair department. When he arrived, he found that automotive had closed early because of the coronavirus regulations.

He is definitely not one to give up, so he made his way to the parts supply in the store. Fix it myself if I can is always his motto. He hailed a clerk and asked her to help identify a tire repair kit. He tried not to think of the rest of the issues he’d have to tackle soon. Not only did the car need repair, but once that problem was resolved, he still had to fix the stairs on the RV. And he didn’t know it then, but later the slide-out wouldn’t work.

Just by coincidence, the automotive manager happened to walk by and heard Joe’s question to the clerk. (I’m kidding about the coincidence part. I don’t believe it happened by chance but by God’s blessing upon us.)

The automotive manager told Joe he’d be glad to fix it. Joe said, “But you’re closed.” The man told Joe it was only one tire and to bring it next door. Moments later, we had a repaired tire and are still driving around on it now.

That may have been a small act of kindness, but it was important to two weary travelers. Thank you, Walmart automotive department.
