Rembrandt Stone. Just your average, ordinary time-traveling police detective. Throw in a serial killer and you’ve got a wild ride through several decades as our hero tries to catch the murderer before he kills again. The True LIes of Rembrandt Stone, a six-book series, is the most suspenseful and well-written set of novels I’ve read in a while. I do think there should be a warning about the lack of sleep you’ll experience and the over-the-top suspense. And lots of nail-biting.

I read the last two books in a twenty-four-hour period, just to see how they ended. And it was worth the late nights and money spent.

Here’s a little about the first novel, Cast the First Stone:

One case haunts him. One chance to fix the past. One mistake could cost him everything.

Ex-Minneapolis Police Detective Rembrandt Stone walked away from a career he loved—just the price of being sure he can come home to the wife and daughter he cherishes. But he can’t shake the deep regret over a case left behind.

When his mentor, the former Chief of Homicide dies and leaves Rembrandt with a box of cold cases and a mysterious watch, he finds himself thrust into a world he recognizes—a world from twenty years ago—the same world he’s woken from in a cold sweat a hundred times. But is it a dream, or some kind of twisted reality?

If he solves the case that plagues him, and justice is finally served, will it destroy the life he loves?

“Cast the First Stone is a mind-bender of the first order. Fast-paced, strong characters, great twists and Rembrandt Stone is a hero I predict will be grabbing readers around the throat for a long time. This is one to pick up because you won’t want to put it down.” Ted Dekker – New York Times bestselling author

Rembrandt Stone doesn’t know how good life is until he inherits a time-traveling watch and the files of cold cases he must solve. Then circumstances steal his present life and sling him where he doesn’t want to be. Can he solve the cases without changing anything while he’s in the past? And if he rewrites history, what will be the consequences? I chuckled, cried, cringed, and worried through all six books.

Definitely worthy of your time. I highly recommend all six novels. Make sure you block out plenty of time because you won’t want to wait long between books…

I’ve read all of James L. Rubart’s books and this collaboration is another winner.
