HI! I’m so glad you’ve joined me again on my new adventure in podcasting. Just the mere thought of trying something so out of the norm for me stopped me from moving forward. I liken it to the phrase “paralysis of analysis.” As an analytical person by nature, the more I thought about it, the deeper I sank into procrastination. How do I even start?

I said a prayer, pulled up a chair to my computer and turned to a trusty friend: research. The first step toward learning to host a podcast was one I’d already done. Listen to a lot of podcasts. 🙂

Wow. Maybe I could do this. And my friend, I believe you’ll find the same to be true in your life. When you look at your own problem or difficult situation, it might seem insurmountable. Take a deep breath and step back for a moment. Do a little research. Do you know someone who dealt with a similar issue you can talk to? Is your problem one you can type into your phone and find a solution? Maybe you need to let it rest for a day and try again tomorrow. I encourage you to not freak out (like me) and do a bit of research.

In a relationship, maybe call or send a card. A job issue? Research. Ask yourself: How serious is my issue? What’s the worse thing that will happen if I find another job? If I stay with this one? What’s the best that can happen?

Sickness or possible surgery? Break it down into small, bite-sized pieces and weigh your options. Pray. If need be, get a second opinion.

Do something.

During my time of research:

  1. I listened to podcasts about podcasting.
  2. Read blogs about podcasting.
  3. Looked at podcasting equipment.
  4. Talked to my writing coach about podcasting.

My favorite podcast episode on this subject is from Novel Marketing: How to Start an Author Podcast.

I’ve listened to it several times. Taken notes. Followed the links. I’m trying to grasp the language of the podcaster and figure out what makes it work.

Taking the step of research helped me to face part of my fears. I could breathe better and had a tiny amount of confidence. I sure wish I could say I dove right in after that. But no, an even bigger step stood tall in front of me.

The next movement to carry me onto the dance floor of the podcaster. We’ll talk more about that next week.

What about you? What have you determined in your heart to accomplish or overcome in 2021? Please share in the comments and we’ll chat. And encourage each other.

As we move forward together…

Until then. Stay determined to dance.

Podcast coming soon. The tentative start date is March 2nd. (or sooner if I can)
