Hello, Friday fiction family! So glad you stopped by today to hear about my latest read, and boy, was it a good one. Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers is part of the Star Wars Legends series, which boasts a total of 68 books. Wow.
You can bask in the Star Wars galaxy for days and days and days …
Our story opens soon after The Return of the Jedi has ended. Darth Vader is dead, and the Emperor (supposedly so). The alliance is brand new, and Luke, Leia, Han, and all their sidekicks have a new mission: The planet of Bakura is under attack from aliens. Only one problem: it is still under Imperial rule, and they don’t know the Emperor’s dead.
What are our heroes to do?
Go and rescue the planet, of course.
My favorite part of this book is the way Tyers digs deeply into the characters of Luke, Leia, and Han and deals with emotions and introspective thoughts that they would experience after their hard-fought victory over the Empire.
- Luke–who came so close to turning to the dark side–struggles with this knowledge and not giving in to anger and hate. He is still learning to use the force. And there could be a possible romance. 🙂
- Leia-fights hatred toward her father, Anakin Skywalker, and struggles to accept who she is.
- Hans is overprotective of Leia and Luke and is still his same snarky self.
I enjoyed Chewie and the droids having vital roles in her story, also. Don’t miss this fun, action-packed story. It is well worth the read …
The Truce at Bakura
No sooner has Darth Vader’s funeral pyre burned to ashes on Endor than the Alliance intercepts a call for help from a far-flung Imperial outpost. Bakura is on the edge of known space and the first to meet the Ssi-ruuk, cold-blooded reptilian invaders who, once allied with the now dead Emperor, are approaching Imperial space with only one goal: total domination. Princess Leia sees the mission as an opportunity to achieve a diplomatic victory for the Alliance. But it assumes even greater importance when a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi appears to Luke Skywalker with the message that he must go to Bakura-or risk losing everything the Rebels have fought so desperately to achieve.
My oldest has been reading Star Wars novels written before Disney took over. He really likes the Thrawn books.
I’ll have to check those out… 🙂
