Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. My husband and I spend Wednesday and part of Thursday cooking, cleaning, and making yummy desserts. Danny’s specialty is turkey and dressing, using his mother’s recipe. I make Pink Fluff every year, a recipe I’ll share below.

We’ll spend Thursday evening with family and friends, feasting, sharing recipes, telling old stories about family members who have passed, and planning our Christmas get-together. Someone will bring a newspaper and we’ll check out the Black Friday sales.

I always shop a little on Friday, and on Saturday we’ll gather once again to eat leftovers and watch the Iron Bowl–Alabama Vs. Auburn–in the afternoon. And hopefully, Alabama will win.

I’m grateful we have the freedom to gather, and I’m trying not to take it for granted. I’m thankful for the men and women who are and have served in our Armed Forces for keeping us safe in Alabama. The holidays give me hope that difficult seasons will pass and God is still on the throne.

How do you spend Thanksgiving, and what are you thankful for? I’d love to know.

Here are some more quotes on gratefulness:

  • “Thank you, Veteran… For stepping forward when others step back. For placing yourself between us and danger. For serving our country. For protecting our freedoms.” —Anonymous
  • “Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” John Milton
  • “Be true to yourself, help others, make each day your masterpiece, make friendship a fine art, drink deeply from good books – especially the Bible, build a shelter against a rainy day, give thanks for your blessings and pray for guidance every day.” John Wooden
  • “I’m just thankful for everything, all the blessings in my life, trying to stay that way. I think that’s the best way to start your day and finish your day. It keeps everything in perspective.” Tim Tebow
