Sometimes, we don’t quite understand what God is saying to us. Maybe misinterpret is a better word. On January 14th, I shared a post about my “word” for 2025. Here’s a quote:

Every year, I take a few moments during December to seek God for direction and focus for the following year. This time, the word came from a radio station. As I drove to town, listening to my local Christian station, they mentioned giving. Nothing big, but it nestled in my spirit. I kept looking, thinking it was such a tiny nudge. However, my thoughts always returned to giving, so I will concentrate on this in 2025. Throughout the year, when times are good or not so good, I’ll remember what God spoke and ask Him how it will apply to my situation.

Personality-wise, I tend to be a helper, so usually overgiving is my problem. But I felt it was true, so I tried to give intentionally.

However, in August, I figured out what God really meant. 2025 has been a year full of bad and good stress. My best friend died. My daughter got married. Continuing thyroid issues. My mom sold her house and moved in with us. My son separated.

So much in less than a year. And that’s when I figured out what God meant about giving.

“So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you.” James 4:7 NCV

I was to give myself and all of the people and circumstances in my life to God. That made much more sense.

No more fighting to fix everything. Help everyone. Take on a hundred too many projects.

Give my life to God. And stand against the devil. So, for the remainder of the year, that’s what I’ll try to do. Focus on Him, His goodness,

His mercy. And pray. I’ve prayed more this year than I think I ever have before. Poured out my heart with groanings too difficult to utter.

Because in the midst of life, God is still good. Still on the throne.

And from that, I can still hope. You can too.

Do you find it difficult to surrender your life, your family to God? I’d love to hear your thoughts…
