“The beautiful spring came, and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.” —Harriet Ann Jacobs
My soul needs revival. Winter has seemed extra long this year, and my innermost being is cold.
Weary.
Discouraged.
But as spring approaches and breezy, warm days mingle amongst the cold, my step becomes lighter. Like a flower pushing from the chilly ground, I make my way outside and begin to breathe again. In Alabama, daffodils are making an appearance, and early trees are covered with blossoms of white and pink. Winter is so gray in sky and land. Now, when I’m driving and see small splashes of color, I feel hope.
And every whisper that has tried to tell me that winter will never end is silenced.
“Oh, that we might know the Lord!
Let us press on to know him.
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn
or the coming of rains in early spring.” Hosea 6:3 NLT
Let’s press in together. Spring is close–very close–and we can rejoice that we know the Lord and He is good.
One of my favorite books, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, takes revival to heart:
“Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.”
So, hang in there, all you who are weary of the cold, snow, and bitterness that winter can bring.
Spring is coming.
And very soon…
Do you struggle with your emotions during winter? What do you do that helps? I’d love to know…

Some winters, I seem to have winter blues. Getting outside helps, even if I’m just walking to do errands in town.
