I’d like to continue the theme of gratitude that I started earlier this month. One of my favorite Bible verses concerning being grateful is Psalm 118:24.
“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” NKJV
Now, I realize the words thankful, grateful, or gratitude are not found in this verse. To me, it is the deeper thought behind the words. This is the day the Lord has made, which brings us to the most important idea. The day is here, we are in this day, and God made all that it entails. So, we are right where we should be. Of course, we can make wrong choices and not be on the path God has opened, but the day is still created by the Lord.
Next is the hook and ending. Rejoice. Be glad. Not maybe, might, should. The word we find is “will.” This song is attributed to King David, who definitely didn’t have an easy life from beginning to end. But he still says rejoice and be glad.
Not happy about terrible circumstances or situations. Rejoicing and glad because this is the day He made, and life could turn toward the better at any moment. That’s where the hope comes in.
- “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy
- “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” William Arthur Ward
- “I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” GK Chesterton
- “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” I Chronicles 16:34
- “Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining – it bores everybody else, does you no good, and doesn’t solve any problems.” Zig Ziglar
Today, I’m still rejoicing about God and His goodness. What do you think? I’d love to hear…
Amen. Rejoice in the Lord. We will have trials and hurts, but God’s peace will cover us when we seek Him. Blessings! 🙂
He will! Happy Holidays!
