This quote from Brennan Manning’s book, Ruthless Trust, floored me.
“–why reproach myself for my lack of trust? Why waste time beating myself up for something I cannot affect? What does lie within my power is paying attention to the faithfulness of Jesus. That’s what I am asked to do: pay attention to Jesus throughout my journey, remember His kindnesses.”
I’m just gonna put it out there. I don’t always trust God. There. I admitted this problem of mine. Sometimes I’m overflowing with faith, and trust comes easily. Mountain moving? No problem.
Then another test is thrown my way. Usually, one involving my relationship with others. And down I go again. Why can’t I just “trust” that God knows what is best for the people in my life? That He cares even more than I do.
I love the above quote because it cuts to the chase. Pushes aside all the junk. My job is to focus on Jesus and what He has already done for me.
I turn my eyes to Jesus and pray for the people and problems in my life.
Then let go.
After all, if Jesus can’t keep them–keep me–then who can?
I tend to make a giant mess when I try to be “Holy Spirit Jr.” and take life in my own hands.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
There it is. In black and white. So, I put the reins back in the hands of a God who is big enough.
And I am so thankful. As Jesus once again becomes the center of my attention.
Now, there is peace.
Do you struggle to turn your eyes to Jesus and not trust in yourself? Let’s discuss this…

On your recommendation, I checked “Ruthless Trust” out of the library, and I read your quote today. Love this book!
It’s definitely deep thinking and not a one day read. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
