I’d like to continue the theme of Christmas reading. A fun activity I can do to combat the holiday blues that try to smother me at this time of year. And maybe you, too.
The dismal gray days.
Reminders of loved ones no longer here.
Aches and pains that go with any weather changes. All that can combine to drag us into the abyss where the devil is haunting. Waiting for us to tumble inside.
But we must fight back. Not give in to the weary drearies.
We can pray, read the Bible, and gather with like-minded friends of the faith.
And we can read. This week, I’d like to share a couple of Christmas non-fiction books that I really like:
- Come and Behold Him by Jack Hayford.
An Invitation to Christmas Worship.
Break the grip of shallow commercialism on the holiday season by preparing your heart to worship Emmanuel as never before. You can rediscover — with childlike wonder — the miracle of Jesus’ birth through warm meditations, joyous new carols, and enduring Scriptures, as beloved pastor Dr. Jack Hayford leads you into a deeper experience of Christ’s presence and power.
2. In the Manger by Max Lucado.
Advent is a season of anticipation, a celebration of the moment that God came near. He came, not as a flash of light or as an unapproachable conqueror, but as one whose first cries were heard by a peasant girl and a sleepy carpenter.
Let In the Manger guide you through each of the 25 days of Advent with:
- A Bible verse to deeply reflect on
- An inspirational passage from some of Max’s most popular books, including 3:16, God Came Near, The Applause of Heaven and more
- A prayer to help you apply the day’s message
Join Mary and Joseph inside a stable, beside a shepherd, and at the feet of the King in the manger as you celebrate the greatest gift of all.
Either of these books can bring you hope, joy, and peace through the beautifully penned words. Do you want to try one today?
What Christmas non-fiction books can you recommend? I’d love to hear…
